- ➤ Prairie Hollow Productions created a documentary titled Oasis on the Prairie that profiles ranchers Matt Perrier and his wife Amy at their Dalebanks Angus near Eureka; the film airs on KTWU Channel 11 on Jan. 27 at 7 pm. Kansas Public Radio
- ➤ The Topeka & Shawnee Co. Public Library is hosting the African American Read-In from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1 to celebrate Black History Month; the event offers readings of African American children’s books, free drawings, bookmarks, activity sheets, and refreshments. WIBW

- ➤ Last week, Dr. Laura Stiles, a KU alum, flew into space on Blue Origin's NS-38 suborbital mission, becoming the fifth Jayhawk to make the journey. Her career with Blue Origin spans over 13 years and included internships at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Kansas Public Radio
- ➤ Blueprint for Literacy director Cynthia Lane urged the Legislature to merge two reading laws aimed at boosting K-12 and university efforts, as testing finds many students read at limited or basic levels. The plan will increase teacher training and targeted reading interventions across public schools. Kansas Reflector

- ➤ Shawnee County Parks and Recreation is drafting its 10-year master plan and is asking residents for input by mailing surveys and launching an online engagement website — a community meeting is set for Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Big Gage Shelter House. WIBW
- ➤ Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt testified in favor of HB 2430 on Monday, Jan. 26 to create an Insurance Savings Account that will let Kansas tax filers save state-tax free for property and casualty expenses. Lawmakers may consider the measure to help families lower insurance costs. WIBW

- ➤ Mickey Huber with American Medical Response in Topeka advises residents to dress in layers and check 'feels like' temperatures to avoid frostbite and hypothermia. He recommends moving indoors immediately if symptoms such as numbness or confusion appear. WIBW
- ➤ Stormont Vail Health and the University of Kansas Health System-Saint Francis treated four cases of cold-related injuries from the weekend winter storm — one patient required hospitalization for frostbite and hypothermia. WIBW

- ➤ West Ridge Mall will host a Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, Jan. 31 — locals can sign up for sessions lasting three, six or 12 hours with a $20 fee that benefits non-profit Sole Reason while staying warm indoors. WIBW

- ➤ Kansas’ women’s basketball team swept K-State at Allen Fieldhouse on Sunday with an 83-61 win; Jaliya Davis scored 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the contest. WIBW
- ➤ Kansas men's basketball beat K-State 86 to 62 on Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum — senior guard Melvin Council Jr tallied 17 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists, pushing the Jayhawks to a 15 to 5 record while the Wildcats fell to a 10 to 10 mark. WIBW
