- ➤ Crews have begun demolishing Stone's Folly, the historic site east of Gage Blvd on 17th St. where the Pentecostal movement started in 1901. Historians hope future development will turn the area into a community space that unites different faiths. WIBW
- ➤ A concert featuring Kelly Hunt to support Braided Haven is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at The Beacon, 420 SW 9th St. Tickets are $50 for general and $80 for VIP, and the fundraiser will offer heavy hors d'oeuvres, auction items + sponsorship opportunities. WIBW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Topeka Symphony hosted its 28th annual School Day Concerts Tuesday at Washburn University’s White Concert Hall, presenting three one-hour shows for fourth- through eighth-graders with a 'Race to the Symphony' theme to encourage interest in school music programs. - ➤ GO Topeka is partnering with eight local manufacturers in the new two-year TopCity FAME program that offers 1,800 hours of hands-on training with three work days and two classroom days a week. The program aims to boost local manufacturing talent — more companies are expected to join soon. WIBW
- ➤ The Topeka & Shawnee Co. Public Library offers free computer and gadget help sessions at four community centers (Shawnee North on Mondays, Oakland on Tuesdays, Crestview today, and IBSA/Gil Carter on Thursdays) with morning sessions from 10 to 11 a.m. and evening sessions from 5 to 6 p.m. WIBW

- ➤ KDHE rescinded the advisory for the northeast part of Lake Shawnee after repairing the damaged pipe that spilled sewage during excavation on Jan. 29. Water tests show normal bacteria levels, and the lake is safe for swimming + livestock use. WIBW

- ➤ K-State Extension in Shawnee County has relaunched its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program offering free tax help this February — walk-ins at IBEW Local 226 occur on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., with appointments at Lundgren CRC Care Center and the public library. WIBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Topeka officials said that the U-building at Oakland Wastewater Treatment Plant remains closed after employee illnesses were reported. Air quality testing was delayed by recent snow and will resume next week, and affected staff have been advised to notify their supervisors + risk management if issues arise. WIBW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt recommended Monday that the Senate Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee support Senate Bill 409 to end cost-sharing for follow-up tests after mammograms + lower financial barriers for Kansas women. Kansas Reflector
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Topeka City Council approved a $50M luxury project Tuesday, Feb. 3, and construction for The Hutch will begin in the third quarter. The four-story building will offer 192 residential units + retail and community amenities near 6th Ave and SW Van Buren. WIBW

- ➤ Topeka High School will host its third Sports Hall of Honor induction Thursday, with doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. in Hoehner Auditorium at 800 S.W. 10th Ave. Honorees will later be celebrated at Friday’s boys’ basketball halftime. WIBW
