BUSINESS NEWS

  • At a Topeka Development Corporation meeting on Tuesday, officials outlined future plans for Hotel Topeka; Endeavor Hotel Group president Roy Arnold said the hotel will be rebranded and repainted in a historic design once it closes, while discussions with Wyndham and Stormont Vail Events Center continue.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Topeka West HS presents 'Between the Lines,' a musical about a new student discovering her voice at 2001 SW Fairlawn. Performances run 7 p.m. Feb. 19-21 + 2 p.m. Feb. 22.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Topeka Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Anderson said if one snow day remains, the district may finish school a week early; final changes will be decided by spring break and shift end-of-year ceremonies. She also noted legislative proposals and a new SENT partnership offering teachers $5,000 (with a five-year commitment).  WIBW
  • Washburn University president JuliAnn Mazacheck received the 2025 Sales Executive of the Year award Tuesday at the WU Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center plus she outlined plans to enhance student experience and community partnerships across northeast Kansas.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hundreds of pharmacists gathered at the Capitol last week to urge lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 360 (a measure that will require pharmacy benefit managers to offer transparent pricing) to help local pharmacies get fair reimbursement. The bill awaits full Senate and House approval.  Kansas Reflector
  • Topeka Chamber met with the Shawnee County delegation at the statehouse Tuesday to seek more funding for riverfront upgrades & interchanges and to request tax credits for new business growth. The group’s proposal follows the recent opening of a $15 million innovation center and goes before a committee Thursday.  WIBW
  • The Shawnee County Public Works Department announced that eastbound lanes on NW 46th Street between NE Fielding Road and NW Button Road (North) will be closed on Monday, Feb. 23 at 8 a.m. for an underdrain installation, and work will take seven days.  WIBW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Students gathered at the Capitol Tuesday for Youth Mental Health Advocacy Day to urge lawmakers to support substance abuse education and ensure Narcan is readily available. They voiced concerns that a parental consent bill may impede school-based mental health services.  WIBW
