Washburn Tech hosted the Grow Local Conference on Saturday to prepare local gardeners for spring planting.
The event offered guidance on unique vegetable growing and community garden methods (with raffle prizes for supplies) for both new and experienced gardeners.
Topeka West High School hosted the Kansas Special Olympics Cold Plunge Saturday morning, where more than 80 participants jumped into an ice-cold pool and raised over $12,000 for local athletes—an event that united residents for a shared cause.

On Feb. 25, an electrical fire (caused by a garage issue) devastated the Petrels' new home; firefighters battled the blaze while neighbors rallied around the family (who lost two dogs).
🎓 Education
Over 160 local middle and high school students took part in District 3 Kansas History Day today, showcasing projects on the theme 'Revolution, Reaction and Reform in History.' Hosted for over 40 years by Washburn University (its longtime partner), the event ended with an awards ceremony.
