COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Trail Appreciation Day took place on Thursday at the Capitol where local trail enthusiasts and lawmakers explored off-road paths that offer hidden gems in our area. Mike Goodwin of Kansas Trails Inc. explained the event highlighted trails that boost mood and spark nearby attractions. WIBW
- ➤ On Thursday, 50 local volunteers from Harvesters + Town + County Christian Church distributed over 40,000 pounds of food to families at KNI in Topeka. The drive-thru event addressed food insecurity in the area. WIBW
- ➤ Shawnee County Parks and Recreation announced plans to restore the creek at Gage Park and install a new iron fence near Playland. The creek project will include plumbing repairs & stonework and is expected to finish by June while replacing an old chain-link barrier. WIBW

- ➤ The Topeka Festival Singers will present 'Eternal Light' on Monday, Mar. 9 at Washburn University’s White Concert Hall with a 7 p.m. start, and doors open at 6 p.m. for a wine bar and selfie station. WIBW

- ➤ Gas prices in Topeka ranged from $2.59 to $2.89 for unleaded on Thursday, with AAA reporting statewide diesel and unleaded averages also rising - local drivers may face higher fuel costs as the market adjusts. WIBW
