  • Baker’s Dozen raised nearly $14,000 today by donating $1 per dozen sale—and multiple local businesses matched these contributions—to support Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters in its effort to boost youth mentoring.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock the Plains Country Music Festival moved to Alma for its second year, set for Aug. 7 & 8 off I-70 & Wabaunsee Rd; the event offers an expanded lineup including Travis Tritt & others, though there is no camping available at the new venue.  WIBW
  • State officials and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation clashed at a Fairway hearing over the Shawnee Indian Mission Site as the tribe plans a cultural center and ownership transfer in July 2028 — while the state vows to maintain stewardship of the historic campus.  Kansas Reflector

  • Topeka Public Schools held its seventh annual World Languages Fair Monday, where students explored Russian, Turkish, Japanese and Native American Potawatomi, offered for the first time. All three high schools participated as organizers explained how learning a new language can help in everyday situations.  WIBW

  • Local advisor Madeline Key (Jones Advisory Group) advises investors to diversify portfolios amid market swings for retirement safety today; she recommends avoiding emotional decisions and views current dips as buying opportunities for younger families.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Topeka Fire Chief Chad Longstaff and Deputy Chief Kevin Gill visited Eye on NE Kansas to urge residents to check smoke alarm batteries. They noted free alarms are available and fire station open houses will run from 4 to 7 p.m. starting with Station 7 on April 3.  WIBW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Schools across Kansas are receiving free Naloxone Boxes from the Attorney General's Office + DCCCA to help prevent opioid overdoses. Washburn University got its kit on Monday, Mar. 9, and 13 more sites will be served by the end of March.  WIBW
