  • Forge Young Talent announced winners of its 2026 Gala Awards — recognizing young professionals and community partners for leadership and innovation. The awards will be presented at Forge Gala 2026: Disco Glam on Saturday, April 18 at Heritage Hall at the Stormont Vail Events Center.  WIBW
  • Rachelle Coe launched Wild Haven during a recent Hear me. See me. podcast on Mar. 10 to help rural women build a support network amid isolation — she explained that rural farm and ranch life presents unique challenges. The initiative aims to strengthen community ties.  WIBW
  • Doorstep will host its online Starlight Auction from March 15 to 21 to support programs offering food, clothing, rent, and transportation in the community. Bidding will open at 10 a.m. on March 15 and close at 10 p.m. on March 21 — check details online.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 23rd Concealed Revealed art auction will benefit YWCA Northeast Kansas on April 11 at 5:30 p.m. at The Aurora at Vinewood, 2848 SE 29th St, where over 60 art pieces will be offered through live & silent auctions along with food, drinks and live art demonstrations.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • About 130 seniors attended a spring cleaning seminar at the Kay McFarland Garden (at the zoo) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where six workshops provided advice on decluttering, managing finances, and planning ahead.  WIBW
  • The Kansas House approved HB 2299 today to restrict student cell phone use in schools and sent the bill to the Governor’s office — a move aimed at keeping classrooms focused on learning.  WIBW
  • The Topeka and Shawnee Co. Public Library is hosting a LEGO-themed Spring Break program for kids from March 15 to 22 with activities like robotics kits, a balloon-powered car, and an escape room puzzle; organizers hope to reach 500 builds on March 20 + inspiring creativity and STEM learning.  WIBW
