ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on Monday morning at S.W. 29th Street — McAlister Avenue in southwest Topeka, and no injuries were reported — according to officials.  WIBW
  • A 19-year-old Silver Lake man, Christopher A. Frye, died after his Ford F-150 pickup truck left the road and overturned into a ditch in northwest Shawnee County on Saturday afternoon—he was ejected from the vehicle, Sheriff Brian C. Hill said.  The Topeka Capital-Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • The City of Topeka said residents got scam texts saying they owe $6.99 for a parking ticket — real fines are $10 and people should block the number and call 785-368-3111 to check any payment requests.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • William Kent Krueger, author of the Cork O’Connor mystery series, will speak at the Topeka & Shawnee Co. Public Library on Wednesday, April 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees can ask questions and get books signed during the event.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Topeka Police Department is asking residents for input to shape its first community policing policy and has opened a survey. The survey opened on Monday, March 17 and will run until Friday, April 18 — it asks residents what community policing means to them — to guide future changes.  KSNT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Washburn University will host its 2025 Spring Game on Friday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at Yager Stadium as new head coach Zach Watkins previews his squad with the Blue Team facing the White Team in a free, community-wide event. The game will also offer tailgating, yard games, and a Pepsi Fan Zone — plans set to create a lively game day atmosphere for fans.  WIBW
