- ➤ SENT Topeka Neighbor Advocates help anyone in need by building relationships & linking them to services such as behavioral health, a food pantry and transportation assistance. Tricia McCourt and Eric Culbertson introduced the program at Eye on NE Kansas. WIBW
- ➤ Heritage Christian School will host a 5K run and pancake feed on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Crestview Shelter House, offering a one mile fun run/walk with check in at 8:15 a.m. + races beginning at 9 a.m. to raise awareness of its academic and spiritual programs. WIBW
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews said the grass fire Wednesday morning was a controlled burn near the Kansas Museum of History along the 6400 block of S.W. 6th Ave west of Wanamaker Road, producing a plume of gray smoke without injury or damage. WIBW

- ➤ Topeka's Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. plant will close temporarily from 11 p.m. April 5 to 11 p.m. April 12 for a company review that may adjust production schedules + employees are advised to apply for state unemployment benefits during the shutdown. The Topeka Capital-Journal

- ➤ The Kansas Legislature passed resolutions on Wednesday, March 18 to honor Jayhawk Theatre for its 100th anniversary as renovations continue to improve ADA access and restore historic features. The work is expected to take about two more years. WIBW

- ➤ Gas prices increased yesterday in Topeka as high demand and global tensions drove up fuel costs. Local unleaded gas ranged from $2.89 to $3.29 per gallon and diesel from $3.99 to $4.83 (AAA and GasBuddy reported these figures). WIBW

- ➤ Kansas high school freshmen will need to pass a 100-question exam based on the U.S. citizenship test if Senate Bill 381 goes into effect on July 1; the bill also requires teaching on the dangers of communist and socialist regimes and was passed in the Senate today. Kansas Reflector

- ➤ Today, KDOT begins a traffic switch on its U.S. 24 project in Shawnee and Jefferson counties that reroutes southbound K-4 ramp traffic via a temporary crossover on westbound U.S. 24 + drivers should follow detour signage until the ramp closes later this summer. WIBW

- ➤ Carl Carlson of Carlson Financial said planning ahead for care gives families more control. He advised people in their 50s and early 60s to consider options like traditional insurance, hybrid policies and strategic savings — alternatives that reduce stress — during his session at Eye on NE Kansas.
