ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews responded to a crash at 7:45 a.m. on March 27 at S.W. 53rd Street — Indian Hills Road, about a mile southwest of Lake Sherwood; officials have not yet confirmed any injuries. WIBW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Topeka man, Danny J. Belisle Jr., 49, was arrested for aggravated burglary and stalking on Tuesday night when officers responded to a reported disturbance near the 3600 block of SE Colorado—he fled before being later taken into custody. WIBW
- ➤ 53-year-old Todd Armstrong was released from Shawnee County Jail after posting a $25,000 bond on Wednesday morning for charges related to a fatal April 11 crash near Topeka that killed second-grade teacher Ashleigh Boyd—he is scheduled to appear in court on April 23—. WIBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Shawnee County Commission approved the intent to issue two industrial revenue bonds during public hearings on March 27 to support Dover Companies’ plan to expand Cedarhurst Senior Living and AMD Partners’ proposal for multifamily housing in Topeka—county bond counsel Bob Perry said this is the first step in a process that will include Dover’s $13.75 million and AMD’s $15 million requests. - ➤ Multiple state agencies including the Kansas Department of Transportation, Highway Patrol and the Department of Health and Environment met at the Capitol on Thursday for the second annual Drive to Zero Day event to reduce highway fatalities.
