  • United Way of Kaw Valley joined 50 groups to aid 15,000 SNAP residents after a shutdown disrupted benefits in late Oct. 2025, launching a five-week campaign from Nov. 10 to Dec. 12 that served 25,000 people in 12 counties and delivered 135,000 pounds of food — backed by $212,333.53 investment.  WIBW

  • AAA data shows Kansans are paying an average $3.32 per gallon—76 cents higher than early February—as the Iran war's effects prompt many residents to adjust travel plans and household budgets amid ongoing uncertainty.  WIBW

  • Author W. Bruce Cameron visited Christ the King Catholic school Wednesday afternoon — he spoke with students about his writing process and the importance of reading. His new book ‘Zeus Water Rescue: Dogs with a Purpose’ is nominated for a William Allen White Award.  WIBW

  • Sen. Roger Marshall met with Kansas small business owners Wednesday at Hazel Hill to hear their concerns about rising insurance costs and health care. The roundtable hosted by the National Federation of Independent Businesses focused on high property insurance premiums and credit card fee impacts on family-run businesses.  WIBW

  • Washburn sophomore Makenzie Sais was named to the 2026 NFCA Division II Player and Pitcher of the Year Watchlist and leads NCAA stats with 58 stolen bases plus a .414 batting average. The award will be announced on May 27 ahead of the NCAA Division II National Championships.  WIBW
