COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, a group of Topeka residents gathered outside City Hall to protest the lack of affordable housing as Topeka JUMP highlighted that 44% of Shawnee County renters struggle to pay their housing costs. The city council approved a plan for a 250-apartment project downtown—called the Union Tower District—that seeks $7.6 million in reimbursements to support mixed-income housing. KSNT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Emergency crews responded to a car and city bus collision in west Topeka around 12:29 p.m. Wednesday at S.W. 6th and Frazier avenues — no serious injuries were reported. WIBW

- ➤ Topeka’s oldest businesses have been active for over 100 years with the Topeka Cemetery starting in 1859 and others like Reuters Shoes and The Aurora at Vinewood adapting over time to serve the community. KSNT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Topeka police arrested two local men—18-year-old Lorenzo Wadkins and 26-year-old Edgar Rascon—in connection with meth possession during a stolen vehicle investigation and both are held without bond at the Shawnee County Jail. WIBW
- ➤ Dana Chandler was found guilty earlier this year for the double murder of her ex-husband Mike Sisco and his fiancé Karen Harkness—she will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. on June 2 in Topeka. KSNT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new art exhibit and documentary titled Reclaiming Home: Remembering the Topeka Bottoms will open on April 4 at ArtsConnect — 909 N Kansas Ave — with artist Maria Velasco speaking at 6:30 p.m. and showcasing community history through models, maps, and personal stories. The documentary screening will take place on April 5 at the Brown versus Board of Education National Historical Site with contributors recognized at 2:30 p.m. before the film starts at 3 p.m. WIBW

- ➤ PARS canceled its annual National Night Out in favor of starting Block Talks that let neighbors plan their own local meetups. The City Council revised the Safe Streets 2025 budget on April 1 by reducing it from $61,000 to around $45,000 + the city plans to create a new National Night Out event later. KSNT
