COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Topeka will host Dinosaur Adventure at Stormont Vail Events Center — near S.W. 19th Street and Topeka Boulevard on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Families can enjoy activities like a realistic fossil search, scooter races and dinosaur rides while tickets cost $27 for those 13 and older and $32 for children ages 2 to 12.  WIBW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 10th, the Topeka Fire Department answered a call at the Cable Dahmer Chevrolet building on Topeka Boulevard—one firefighter was treated for minor injuries after smoke and flames appeared near a ventilation unit in the body shop paint booth and the fire was ruled accidental.  KSNT

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 9, Riley County Police booked three people for attempted first-degree murder in connection to a November 30 shooting on College Heights Rd + one is from Topeka and two are from Manhattan; Johnson and McGlory remain in jail on a $1 million bond + Temple is held at the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Volunteers at Old Prairie Town in Topeka have spent over 100 hours setting up Tulip Time by rotating weekly displays to keep tulips blooming; the event will transform the area into a wonderland when the lights go on at twilight. Visitors can enjoy live local music and food trucks today and on April 12—offering a festive celebration in the community.  KSNT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Kansas Legislature overrode Gov. Laura Kelly's veto of a bill that may lower income tax rates automatically when revenues exceed set targets—Senate vote 30 to 10 and House vote 87 to 37 secured the override.  Kansas Reflector
  • Henry McClure—a local real estate developer—is running for mayor and appeared on 27 News morning show to outline his plan to boost retail development without taxpayer money using city incentives like Tax Increment Financing, Community Improvement Districts and Reinvestment Housing Incentive Districts. He will push to hold elections at the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority, Board of Regents and the library to increase public engagement.  KSNT
  • Today at 11 p.m., eastbound I-70 from S.W. Gage Boulevard to S.E. 6th Avenue will close for a pavement patching project and will reopen at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting. The closure also affects the S.W. 1st Street exit ramp, which will remain closed until late December—part of a viaduct reconfiguration.  WIBW
  • The Kansas Department of Transportation said eastbound I-70 from Gage Boulevard to 6th Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. today for pavement patching work that will last until work is finished or until midnight on April 13, and detours will guide drivers to the last open exit. The department also said the eastbound exit ramp to 1st Street is closed as part of the (Polk-Quincy Viaduct project) until late December for interchange reconfiguration.  KSNT
