ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday afternoon, firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze at 5201 S.W. Shunga Drive in southwest Topeka that damaged a residence and lightly affected a neighboring house—no injuries were reported and no foul play is suspected. WIBW
- ➤ Emergency crews responded to an injury crash at 6:49 a.m. Thursday on northbound US-75 near S.W. 65th Street south of Topeka — no serious injuries were reported as Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies arrived shortly after. WIBW
- ➤ A crash on Thursday morning slowed traffic in the 2200 block of S.W. Gage Boulevard near the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Affairs Medical Center—emergency crews responded and reported no injuries. WIBW

- ➤ Frederick Daniel Anguish, 54, of Topeka, was arrested early Thursday on US-75 near 142nd Road—three miles south of Mayetta—for methamphetamine possession and several related drug and driving charges and was booked in Jackson County Jail in Holton. WIBW

- ➤ Washburn Tech held its 12th annual letter of intent signing day on Thursday morning at its campus on 5724 SW Huntoon St., welcoming students who plan to attend in the fall. - ➤ Kansas Appleseed marked the 10th anniversary of the HOPE Act by releasing a report — issued Wednesday — that criticized state rules making it hard for Kansans to get SNAP benefits.
