- ➤ Topeka Metro will park its bus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today outside Dillons at Fairlawn Plaza to collect nonperishable food donations for Project Topeka. The 39th annual event (started in 1986) aims to beat its record of 2,5000 pounds in donations for seven area pantries. WIBW
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car-deer crash occurred early Friday at 6:14 a.m. on northbound US-75 near N.W. 70th Street, with no serious injuries reported — authorities are still investigating the situation. WIBW
- ➤ A person was found dead after a house fire early April 18 at 419 S.E. Rodgers in East Topeka — firefighters arrived just after 5:50 a.m. and officials are investigating the cause. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ Emergency responders arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle collision near 24th and S. Kansas Avenue just south of downtown Topeka early Friday morning around 7:50 a.m.—no serious injuries have been reported. WIBW

- ➤ The Greater Topeka Partnership has selected Winner Partners (a national executive search firm) to lead the search for its next CEO. Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek chairs the search committee (with Interim CEO Stephanie Moran serving until a new hire is announced in July). WIBW

- ➤ Caleb Eugene Brown, 19, was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Thursday in Topeka after a fatal shooting around 3 a.m. at a gas station on N.E. Wasbash Ave. in the Oakland neighborhood where Oscar A. Ramirez, 24, died—he faces charges of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm while under the influence. WIBW
