- ➤ The Topeka community is mourning Lieutenant Eddie Stanley, a dedicated police officer and father who died Monday morning after a medical emergency. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Northland Christian Church (3102 Northwest Topeka Boulevard), with a graveside service following at Mount Hope Cemetery (4700 Southwest 17th Street). - ➤ West Ridge Mall is enforcing a new Parental Escort Policy that requires guests under 16 to be with a guardian after 3 p.m. to curb disruptive behavior driven by social media trends—mall manager Casey Richardson said the updated rules allow one adult to supervise up to four youths while giving families shopping responsibly some leeway. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two people sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash late Thursday near S.E. 53rd Street and Croco Road southeast of Topeka, and American Medical Response transported them to a local hospital. WIBW
- ➤ Crews responded to a two-vehicle injury crash early Friday at 7:36 a.m. at 35th and N. Kansas Avenue north of Topeka where one vehicle went into a ditch and at least one person was injured — further details are pending. WIBW

- ➤ Dr. Walt Menninger—psychiatrist and memoir author—and co-author Todd Fertig will hold an author talk from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at the Marvin Auditorium at the Topeka & Shawnee Co. Public Library, where attendees can ask questions about Dr. Menninger’s new memoir 'Like What You Do'. WIBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Kansas Department of Transportation announced that a $300,000 pavement marking project on I-70 in Topeka will impact traffic in the coming days. Work starts on Monday, April 28 and extends five miles from Valencia Road to Urish Road in Shawnee County — lanes will be reduced to one during daylight hours and ramp closures may occur as needed. - ➤ State troopers plan to move the agency headquarters to the first level of the Curtis State Office Building at 1000 Southwest Jackson — a relocation scheduled for FY 2027. Officials said the agency chose the existing building over a planned $48 million new facility — a decision expected to boost efficiency. KSNT
- ➤ Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed a bill on Friday that would have given Promise Scholarship funds to two private schools—Wichita Technical Institute and Heartland Welding Academy. Lawmakers had supported the bill to help more students, but Kelly said the plan risked public money. Kansas Reflector
