COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Crevier family in Topeka has fostered over 25 children in four years by answering a call for help from their local church community and now encourages others to consider fostering. Their home is part of a network supporting 510 children in local care.  The Topeka Capital-Journal
  • Topeka residents attended the annual Wounded Warrior Family Support Car Show on Saturday at Fairlawn Plaza. Car enthusiasts displayed vintage models while 20 top vehicles received awards (money raised benefited a nonprofit that assists injured service members and their families).  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Combat Air Museum celebrated its 50th anniversary by offering free admission plus $8 pancake feeds, live music and a flower sale that drew about 400 visitors, and the museum will host a modeling contest in May to expand community engagement in its unique wartime aircraft collection.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volunteers from churches in Topeka helped refresh local schools Saturday by landscaping, pruning bushes and repainting facilities including bike stands and fences at Robinson Middle School as part of the annual Sharefest event.  WIBW
  • Topeka Public Schools’ Parents as Teachers hosted its Roll & Read event Saturday at Evergy Plaza, inviting kids riding bikes, skateboards, and scooters to pick up free books that boost early reading skills while families enjoyed fun reading activities downtown.  WIBW
