  • Midland Care held its 30th Celebration Walk Friday on its campus—featuring food trucks, kids activities and a butterfly release that honored hospice patients. The fundraiser supported Midland Care’s services, giving residents a day of remembrance and comfort.  WIBW
  • Zoom, a three-year-old stray at Helping Hands Humane Society, is free for adoption until May 17 thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation and known for his playful voice; donations can be made through the Warm Paws Warm Hearts Art Auction, with submissions accepted until May 16.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Canvas is back online today after a hacker breach, and Topeka IT firm Premier One urged residents to secure primary email accounts with strong passwords and multi-factor authentication (one of three key steps) to protect their digital identity.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, May 11, the California Avenue bridge over I-70 will close for replacement work until late fall — drivers should follow marked detours. Demolition begins Wednesday, May 13 as part of the project.  WIBW
  • State employees have raised concerns today over proposals to drop Blue Cross Blue Shield in favor of Aetna, a move that could save nearly $240 million. Officials are reviewing the plan as employees warn that a smaller network might limit access to needed care.  Kansas Reflector
