- ➤ Topeka United and Dirty Girl Adventures will host the annual Kaw River Adventure on Saturday, June 6 at Lecompton Rising Sun River Access. Participants aged 12 and up can register with kayak rentals at 11 a.m. (own kayak drop-off is 10:30 a.m.) for $60 or $50. WIBW
- ➤ Kansas animal and wildlife enthusiasts can explore seven AZA-accredited zoos during the KaZoo Wild Adventure Passport program, which runs from May 24 to Sept. 7 across the state. Families collect passport stamps and entry to a prize drawing at sites such as Topeka Zoo to celebrate conservation efforts. WIBW
- ➤ Helping Hands Humane Society is calling on residents to adopt or foster homeless pets, aiming to place 50 animals in safe homes before the weekend — the group also invites community members to donate supplies and volunteer to support its work. WIBW
- ➤ Athletes with Special Olympics Kansas and law enforcement officers held their annual torch run at the Topeka Law Enforcement Center yesterday to raise money for inclusion + the flame will travel to Wichita summer games starting June 5. WIBW

- ➤ Country music legend Randy Travis will appear—though he won’t sing—with guest vocalist James Dupre at the Topeka Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Nov. 7 as part of The More Life Tour; tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29 with opening act Jake Hoot. WIBW
- ➤ The Topeka Zoo will host Boots and Bowties, a country-themed fundraiser featuring pony hop races, bull riding, contests, and live music from Dallas Pryor + The Lazy Wayne Band, from 6 to 10 p.m. on June 5. Tickets cost $50 for general admission and $90 for VIP. WIBW
- ➤ Bill Kurtis, a WIBW alum, will speak on Topeka's history as a tornado struck 60 years ago during a free event at Washburn University Memorial Union on June 8. Donations by June 1 may give a chance to meet Kurtis before the talk & support the Kansas Book Festival. WIBW

- ➤ The KDWP advises residents who see a baby deer on the ground to leave it undisturbed, as fawns rest alone and their mothers are nearby grazing & fawns will be seen more often over the next couple weeks. Officials warn that handling the animal could endanger its survival. WIBW

- ➤ Topeka Zoo announced that 19-year-old tenrec Sophie recovered after her thyroid tumor was completely removed two months ago. The veterinary team used careful planning & delicate technique to give her a second chance at life. WIBW

- ➤ Washburn’s Kirby Ronning was named the 2026 ITA Division II Women’s Coach of the Year, becoming the first coach in Ichabod history to earn a national honor. He led the team to a 20-5 record and seven wins over ranked opponents earlier this season. WIBW
