  • Prevention and Resiliency Services will host a 60th Anniversary Open House on Thursday, June 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at its office on SW 29th Street to mark 60 years of service to Topeka—PARS will also launch a fund development initiative asking community members to donate $60 or any amount ending in 60.  WIBW
  • Forge Young Talent in partnership with Downtown Topeka Inc. will host its 'May the Forge Be With You' Star Wars block party at Tee Box (906 S. Kansas Avenue) on Sunday, June 8, from 12 to 5, featuring actor appearances, character meet-and-greets, themed drinks, and live music for community fun.  WIBW
  • Scout Troop 59 held a Bison Pet Academy at First Lutheran Church on SW Fairlawn Rd in the morning, where scouts paid a $10 fee to earn one of four animal care and science merit badges — the free afternoon event let community members learn about local pet organizations including Helping Hands Humane Society and Team Kitten.  WIBW

  • The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library held a summer kickoff on Saturday morning featuring community groups, vehicle rides, face painting, a live band, and a Dr. Drab’s lab exhibit for kids—launching summer reading contests with prizes for all ages. Library staff said the event set the stage for a busy season of programs and activities.  WIBW

  • The Kansas Supreme Court split on whether using a drug-sniffing dog during a Wichita traffic stop violated the Fourth Amendment—justices in the majority upheld the search on a legally parked car after a driver's suspended license prevented her from leaving, while dissenting justices argued the extended stop breached constitutional rights.  Kansas Reflector

HEALTH NEWS

  • Motorcyclists rode around Topeka in the second annual Save a Life Poker Run to collect chips for a prize and fight against fentanyl. Non-profit TK Fights Fentanyl and Kaylee’s Dad is Mad organized the ride after losing their children to overdose — 180 people joined the effort.  WIBW

  • Mark Dickey, a Topeka man, got a Bobo's Drive In logo tattoo on his calf at Fine Line Tattoo today to show his hometown pride - the restaurant honored the gesture by giving him free food and a worker said the tattoo symbolizes his long-time loyalty.  KSNT
