- ➤ Prevention and Resiliency Services (PARS) will celebrate its 60th anniversary with an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. June 12 at its office at 2209 SW 29th St.—the event will give visitors a chance to learn about the organization’s efforts to educate the community on substance use prevention. WIBW
- ➤ Volunteers from Town and Country Christian Church distributed about 33,000 lbs of food at the Harvesters event at Kansas Neurological Institute on Thursday morning in Topeka—about 220 cars were served and the church said the need remains steady. WIBW

- ➤ Three people were arrested after two traffic stops Tuesday night in Topeka; a north side stop at 7:30 p.m. saw a deputy with a K+9 unit arrest 61-year-old Ruth A. Ohandlen-Swiger for drug charges and 63-year-old Johnny L. Powers Sr. for a felony warrant, and a later stop in the Highland Park area near S.E. 17th Street led to the arrest of 62-year-old Darius R. Moore for drug distribution+vehicle violations. WIBW

- ➤ The Kansas Legislature task force is debating if high school graduation rates should gauge student success after allegations of record manipulation at Wichita Southeast, with some members saying the rates do not reflect true learning + others defending them as a key indicator of school readiness. - ➤ A free teen driving school from B.R.A.K.E.S. will offer safe driving training on June 21—22 with classes starting at 8 a.m. on both days, at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and at noon on Sunday. The program partners with the Kansas Department of Transportation and AAA Club Alliance to provide lessons from law enforcement officers and top fuel drag racers on avoiding crashes and handling emergencies. - ➤ Topeka's water comes from the Kansas River as it is pulled into the Water Treatment Plant which treats the water with chemicals—chlorine to kill germs and lime to soften it—before sending it through over 900 miles of pipes and into water towers.
