ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-vehicle crash injured Topeka driver Rebecca Spears, 72, Sunday morning in Shawnee County when her 2009 Toyota Rav4 collided with a 2012 Ford F250 Super on U-24—Spears was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital with minor injuries—after her vehicle attempted a U-turn.  WIBW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Greater Topeka Partnership was named a finalist for the Chamber of the Year award by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. Winners will be announced on July 23 — a nod to the group’s work to boost Topeka's business growth.  WIBW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • June 8 marks the 59th anniversary of the F5 tornado that struck Topeka in 1966 & killed 17 people, injured over 500, and caused $200 million in damages. Survivors recalled taking cover on televised advice as the devastating storm changed the city and its community.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Laura Kelly announced a $2.3M investment in digital skills training and workforce readiness programs on June 4 that will target nearly 50,000 Kansans. The DOCK program will partner with 13 organizations statewide—expanding access to digital tools and cybersecurity, job readiness, and online safety education.  WIBW

  • Washburn football staff hosted a girls flag football camp Sunday night with sessions held in the Indoor Facility and under lights at Yager Stadium—teams from Kansas City and Missouri practiced drills ahead of the sport's high school debut.  WIBW
