COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Somerset Lavender will host the first Red, White & Lavender Festival on Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at 9000 KS-4 west of Topeka, and the event is expected to draw at least 500 people to pick fresh lavender, sip lavender lemonade, taste soft-serve ice cream, and shop from 13 vendors including a food truck selling $10 lavender bundles.  KSNT
  • Cyclists riding in the annual Biking Across Kansas 2025 event are traveling 72 miles from Washington to Sabetha today as they continue a 475-mile, eight-day ride through north Kansas—passing along county roads and key highways from the Colorado border. The noncompetitive event has been held every year since 1975 except in 2020.  KSNT

  • On Tuesday a man was seriously injured when a tractor fell on him while he worked on it at the 2900 block of SE Tecumseh Rd—he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  KSNT

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers arrested Lacie Monique Alexander, 37, on Tuesday in East Topeka after a domestic disturbance at the 2000 block of S.E. Bellview Avenue, and she faces charges of burglary and battery — she is held on a $50,000 bond.  WIBW
  • A person in a mental health crisis was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a short foot chase that began near S.W. 37th Street and Topeka Boulevard+ ended near 37th Street and S. Kansas Avenue at 7:13 a.m.+ no injuries were reported.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Army has placed the Fort Riley Museum among over 20 museums that may close after an operational review—approval for the closure is expected in the next few weeks and the museum is set to be shuttered to the public by the end of September 2027.  KSNT

  • Yesterday, KMC Dermatology unveiled a new skin cancer treatment using Image-Guided SRT during Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer Awareness Week—targeting patients on blood thinners or with cancers in areas of poor circulation.
