COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cruisin 4 Charity, a car show benefit for Dream Acres FASD, is set for Saturday, June 28 at Forest Park, 3158 SE 10th St—gates open at 9 a.m. Public entry starts at 10 a.m. and the event will have food trucks, inflatables, vendors, raffles and car show awards at 4 p.m.  WIBW
  • Evergy and The Salvation Army will give away 345 free fans on Wednesday, June 25 at 9 a.m. at the Salvation Army community center at 1320 S. 6th Street in Topeka. Walk-up service will be offered and drivers may line up on 6th Street—without blocking business entrances—until all fans are given away.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Renowned comedian Ron White, known as Tater Salad, will perform live on September 18 at 7 p.m. at the Great Lakes Ballroom in Mayetta — tickets go on sale on June 27 starting at $110.  WIBW
  • The Sunflower Music Festival returns to Northeast Kansas in June with nine free concerts at Washburn’s White Concert Hall—featuring orchestra, chamber, and jazz music and running through June 28th.  WIBW
  • Today at the Woodshed Event Center in north Topeka, the first annual Renaissance Festival opens with jousting shows, living history encampments, axe throwing, and face painting — tickets cost $30 for an adult weekend pass, $16 for a one-day pass, $10 for a child weekend pass and $5 for a one-day pass — and the event continues tomorrow with contests including a tug-of-war.  KSNT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kansas Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for a second round of Simplified Equipment-Only Grants under the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program for Kansas food and farm businesses and other eligible groups—applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on July 18. Awardees must complete equipment purchases by December 31—ensuring prompt project readiness.  WIBW
  • Under a new state law signed in April, Kansans began buying fireworks last Friday instead of waiting until June 27 and Jake’s Fireworks in Topeka saw early sales rise with customers using coupons and special deals—merchants with limited distributor access may face inventory challenges.  WIBW

  • Topeka-area service groups will host the Celebrate Community Blood Drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at West Ridge Mall's lower level north entrance—local clubs join forces to meet rising blood donation needs this summer.  WIBW
