  • Fun Time Shows Carnival will come to West Ridge Mall from Wednesday through Sunday with rides like the Ferris Wheel, Cliffhanger, and Carousel and classic games after the mall stepped in following a permitting issue in another city. The carnival will open at 6 p.m. (Wed-Fri) and 1 p.m. (Sat-Sun).  WIBW
  • The Family Initiative, Inc. celebrated its 60th anniversary by honoring Nadine Terry, a nearly 40-year veteran committed to supporting local children and families. Terry will be awarded the Years of Service Award at the Sip—Safari event on June 28 at the Topeka Zoo's Kay McFarland Japanese Garden.  WIBW
  • Residents in NE Kansas are planning Fourth of July celebrations with fireworks shows, parades and concerts scheduled at venues in Topeka, Hiawatha, Tecumseh, Manhattan and Junction City. One event is a fireworks show at Happy Bassett Barrel House on June 28th from 4:30 p.m. to midnight—another is a run and parade in Topeka on July 4.  WIBW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Coffey County man, a 27-year-old Waverly resident, died in a rollover crash on Saturday, June 21 when his Chevrolet Silverado left South Jordan Road near the West 317th Street Junction at about 6:15 p.m.—the driver overcorrected and the vehicle rolled into a ditch while two five-year-old passengers suffered minor injuries.  KSNT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Evergy is launching new energy efficiency programs to help Kansas residents save energy and money by offering incentives for upgrades like smart thermostats and energy-efficient HVAC equipment—customers can also complete a Home Energy Analysis online for tailored savings tips.  WIBW

  • Topeka is holding its summer count of homeless people today and tomorrow. Volunteers and outreach agencies are gathering information, and locals are asked to call the hotline when they see someone experiencing homelessness—ensuring that every individual is counted.  WIBW

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, June 23, the University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus announced its partnership with the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program to support new nursing graduates in starting clinical practice. The year-long program begins with a twelve-week orientation and monthly seminars for nurses with a Kansas license—meeting the eligibility requirements of earning a degree from an accredited college.  WIBW
