  • Former classmates from Roosevelt Junior High met Saturday at Big Gage Shelterhouse for a class reunion that featured a meet and greet, dinner, and happy hour — ending with a dance party. Attendees reconnected as they shared memories from their school days.  WIBW
  • Fiesta Topeka honored its 2025 sponsors with a dinner and award on Saturday, July 12, thanking them for their contributions; over 30 local and larger business sponsors attended the event—celebrating a legacy of pride, passion and culture.  WIBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Topeka native Eddie Wakes performed at the Topeka Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 12, singing songs from his new album 'Street Singer' volume one — a homecoming event that showcased his unique style. His performance preluded seven upcoming live shows at the center — events designed to offer affordable tickets and inspire local talent.  WIBW
  • The 92nd annual Fiesta Topeka Parade kicked off downtown Saturday as part of the Fiesta Topeka Festival honoring Mexican culture. The festival will continue with food, live music and carnival activities at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church from July 15th—19th, with proceeds benefiting the Church and Holy Family School.  WIBW
  • Fiesta Topeka crowned Milagro Alvarado as its 2025 queen at the Coronation Ball on Saturday, July 12 at Topeka Social—she was the only candidate and received support from community members including Mayor Michael Padilla. She said she is excited to serve her community—looking forward to a future engaging more with local festival traditions.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kelly signed a bipartisan bill on July 9 in Hays to set up a water task force that will plan a long-term water program with a dedicated revenue source — the group will review current funding and planning statutes and deliver preliminary and final reports by January 31, 2026 and January 31, 2027.  WIBW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Organizers of the Sunflower State Games cancelled the martial arts tournament on July 11 due to air conditioning issues at the Maner Conference Center. Local martial arts schools have scheduled their own tournaments—offering fresh opportunities for competitors as other games continue this weekend.  KSNT
