- ➤ Camp Milton held its 45th annual Hogball softball tournament on Sunday and raised $60k to support its weeklong summer camp for children with neuromuscular diseases—one team raised over $25k and the funds will help the camp offer a full schedule of activities. The event continues the camp’s tradition of giving children a chance to experience life freely. WIBW

- ➤ Lieutenant Governor David Toland has encouraged job seekers and employers to join the Virtual Statewide Job Fair hosted by KANSASWORKS on August 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The digital event lets participants fill out applications, chat live, and interview — and it offers accessible accommodations for those with disabilities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Westboro met on Sunday to discuss proposed zoning changes that would convert single-family homes to duplexes—many worry the plan could hurt the neighborhood's historic character. City officials said discussions will continue and the Planning Commission will review the proposal on August 18th at 6:00 p.m. WIBW
- ➤ Today, the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library began parking lot improvements including resurfacing, concrete replacement, and drainage upgrades (Washburn Ave and 11th St entrances are closed) while the lot stays open via the Garfield Ave entrance. Sunflower Paving will complete the four-phase project (expected to finish by October) to resolve parking issues before winter. WIBW
- ➤ Attorney General Kris Kobach sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi urging the Justice Department to investigate Energy Foundation China's alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party in a move he said threatened U.S. energy independence. His letter claimed that the group uses environmental lawsuits to shift reliance away from domestic energy sources — a strategy that could increase dependence on Chinese-made supplies. WIBW
