ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi truck rolled onto its side on I-70 near the county line between Shawnee and Wabaunsee and first responders were on site.  KSNT

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating a stabbing in North Topeka on Wednesday night where one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries & the exact location has not been released.  WIBW
  • Emergency crews responded after 11 p.m. Wednesday to a shooting on the 100 block of N.W. Kendall Avenue in central Topeka—where medics pronounced one person dead, marking the city's 14th homicide investigation of 2025.  WIBW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local owner Tony Mashaal of Tony’s Quick Shop will build a new gas station on a vacant lot at Southeast Adams Street and Southeast 21st Street after the City Council approved rezoning in July. Construction will begin in early 2026 on a site that once had a condemned building and will honor longtime customer Joe McBride—who regularly helped care for the old station.  KSNT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Laura Kelly appointed Larkin Walsh to the Kansas Supreme Court on Thursday, replacing Justice Evelyn Wilson who resigned on July 4. Walsh, a Leawood attorney with experience on state and federal appeals, said she is honored to serve Kansans — she vowed to uphold fair and impartial decisions.  WIBW
  • Campaigns for and against a constitutional amendment to let Kansans vote for Supreme Court justices have started ahead of the August 2026 vote. Supporters say the change will give people more control over the judiciary while critics worry its vague language could let special interests sway the process—details that lawmakers still must clarify.  Kansas Reflector
  • Kansas House legislators launched an aggressive inquiry into how the state Board of Nursing handled license renewals—citing cases where clerical errors were treated as unprofessional conduct and resulted in severe career consequences for nurses.
