- ➤ The City of Topeka will start a road construction project on Aug. 18 on Northwest 17th Street near the Sunflower Sports Association that will force drivers onto a five-mile detour using Vail Avenue—Northwest 25th Street and Menoken Road. The project will repair failing concrete panels with asphalt overlay and patching and is expected to take three weeks. KSNT

- ➤ Agencies in Shawnee, Douglas and Lyon counties received Chronic Disease Risk Reduction grants yesterday from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to help lower tobacco use, improve nutrition and boost physical activity—covering 25 counties and nearly two million Kansans.
