  • Raising Cane’s, known for its chicken fingers, Texas toast and Cane’s sauce, plans to open nearly 100 new restaurants this year — marking rapid national growth. A new Topeka site is scheduled to open early next year — a key step in the chain’s expansion strategy.  KSNT

CULTURE NEWS

  • GreatPLAY Topeka launched its new gel blaster interactive game on August 16th—mixing paintball and laser tag in a large blackout arena that features team play for all ages. The permanent Gel Blaster Nexus at GreatPLAY Topeka at 1936 NW Tyler St also offered a demonstration and a drawing for a $200 gift basket.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kids learned about water at the Kansas Children's Discovery Center during the Water Wonder Days program, where they enjoyed fun paper and clay craft activities that helped them explore water's role in daily life—The program will return in October.  WIBW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Family Service and Guidance Center held its 19th annual Works of Heart fundraiser today at Townsite Center—paintings and pottery were auctioned online and in person to support local mental health services for children, teens and families.  WIBW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Washburn football finished fall camp yesterday and is set to begin classes on Monday as the team gears up for its season opener against Truman State on Aug 30 — first-year head coach Zach Watkins said the squad showed strong progress during camp.  KSNT
