- ➤ The Topeka Zoo reported that Liz the giraffe died Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. and the zoo closed the Giraffe and Friends building—official test results are still pending. KSNT
- ➤ The Topeka Zoo announced that a 7-year-old giraffe named Liz died around 10 p.m. on Aug. 23, and she was the daughter of Hope and Sarge—zoo officials said they will share more details once test results come in. The zoo closed its Giraffe—Friends building on Aug. 24 and will resume public giraffe feedings on Aug. 31. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ Handlers from across the country brought an estimated 1,400 dogs to the Stormont-Vail Events Center from Aug. 21–24 for the Capital City Cluster Dog Show, which generated about $1 million for local businesses + hotels and restaurants. WIBW
