- ➤ Tap That Topeka will return downtown on Sept. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m.—bringing local and regional breweries, good food, live music and unlimited beer samples on 8th Street between Kansas Ave. and Jackson Street. KSNT
- ➤ A group of professionals is organizing a seminar for seniors in Kay’s Japanese Garden on Sept 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the event honors a legacy gift from late Justice Kay McFarland to help guide seniors on planning for health, insurance, and estate matters. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ Yesterday, the Sunflower Striders Running Club held its 17th Labor Your Legs Fun Run and Walk around the Washburn campus to honor Professor Dave Provorse and his wife Marcia, who died in a car crash last December. Donations from the run—used for a new memorial statue on Shunga Trail and a scholarship fund—will help support Washburn psychology students. WIBW

- ➤ Emergency crews responded to a shooting report early Monday at 7:35 a.m. in the 100 block of N.W. Holman Street in North Topeka — at least one person was injured and details are still emerging. WIBW
- ➤ Topeka police are investigating a suspicious death after a person was found shot at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 1 in the 100 block of NW Holman in North Topeka—officials have not released the deceased's identity or other details. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ Police reported a shooting in North Topeka on Monday at 7:35 a.m. in the 100 block of N.W. Holman Street—authorities are investigating and it is unclear if anyone was killed. KSNT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Constitution Hall in Topeka was a key start of the Lane Trail on the Underground Railroad and will reopen to the public this fall. On Sept 27 the hall will host a free event called Underground Railroad on the Western Frontier from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—bringing together speakers to honor its role for freed people including abolitionist John Brown.
