- ➤ Law enforcement is searching for Patrick Crim, 34, who was last seen at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the Abate Bike Rally in Jefferson County and ask anyone with information to call 785-863-2765. KSNT

- ➤ More than 40 Vietnam War-era bird dog planes will visit Topeka's Forbes Field later this month from Sept. 10—14 for a 75th Anniversary Homecoming event that includes fly-outs, tours, and meal gatherings to honor veterans. Attendees will have opportunities to see the iconic aircraft and join in special commemorative activities. KSNT
- ➤ Topeka’s Black American Blueprint Collective announced that its exhibit 'Our Stories: African American Topeka Before and After Brown' will reopen Sept. 5 at West Ridge Mall — featuring Kansas African American history and including food, live music, reenactors and public activities from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kansas State Department of Education introduced a bullying toolkit that focuses on mental health—using school counselors to support both bullies and targets. The toolkit has already started to be used in schools and will connect families with local community resources. WIBW
- ➤ Washburn Tech is building a new North facility for industrial maintenance, cosmetology and business training — the project had a well-attended groundbreaking ceremony on August 26 and uses extra space from a building that sat empty for nearly ten years. The facility will open early summer 2026 and students will begin in fall 2026 — the north Topeka community has shown strong support for the plans. KSNT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Topeka City Council tabled its vote on abating special assessment penalties on Marney Properties parcels in Lauren’s Bay Estates until Sept.16—residents raised concerns about the city's fairness in handling tax issues for developers and citizens. The public will voice opinions at the Sept.9 meeting as the final 2026 operating budget nears completion. WIBW
- ➤ The Docking Building is set to open this fall and will house the Secretary of State’s Office, the Commerce Budget and Personnel Services divisions, and Capitol Police—while the Utilities Plant stays in the basement. Further moves for state departments will be planned once backfilling opportunities are finalized. WIBW
- ➤ A three-judge panel from the Kansas Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments at Washburn University School of Law Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Robert J. Dole Hall as part of Constitution Day observances. The panel—led by Judge Stephen Hall and including Judges Rachel Pickering and Lori Bolton Fleming—will allow each side 15 minutes to present cases, ask questions, and speak with students before issuing its written decision in the following months.
