- ➤ On September 5, volunteers sold 9,000 Chiefs flags at local McDonald's in Topeka to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities—flags began selling at 6 a.m. and sold out by 10 a.m. The event, extended in 2021, has raised over $80,000 to help families with hospital care. WIBW

- ➤ Dialogue Coffee House opened a new location inside Washburn University's School of Applied Studies building on Friday morning — the building formerly known as Mabee Library — to create jobs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and give students hands-on work experience as part of a long-planned partnership. - ➤ Topeka police arrested Dalton Wolf Thompson (28) on Thursday night for charges linked to a shooting in Oakland where one man died and another was hospitalized after officers reached the 1000 block of NE Poplar Street. KSNT
- ➤ Two 17-year-olds were arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of Kansas intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym on June 30 in Washington, D.C.—police continue to search for a third suspect. KSNT

- ➤ The Kansas Department of Transportation will close the eastbound U.S. 24 exit ramp to northbound U.S. 75 on Monday, Sept. 8 until late November as it repairs a bridge on U.S. 75—drivers will use marked detours via southbound U.S. 75 and NW Lower Silver Lake Road. WIBW
- ➤ Kansas Department of Transportation will start a bridge replacement project at I-35 and Gardner Road on Monday, Sept. 8 — the project will replace the bridge and add turn lanes, shoulders, lighting and pedestrian facilities in phases, with work expected to finish in November 2027. WIBW

- ➤ Kansas health officials are preparing rapid response plans for cases of flesh-eating screwworm infections after issuing an alert on Sept 5 following an outbreak in Central America—local healthcare providers are advised to report suspected travel-related cases.
