- ➤ The 21st annual Kaw Valley Farm Tour will take place on Oct. 4 and 5 and feature 33 farms and six heritage sites across northeast Kansas to offer local food, history, and family farm experiences. Hilary Kass, the event coordinator, said the tour will include new additions like Compass Prairie Art Farm + a kickoff event at Vinland Valley Nursery to help support small family farms. KSNT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An arrest was made in connection with the Labor Day shooting death of Cody Bush in North Topeka—Justin Shumway was booked for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery after officers found Bush deceased in a backyard at about 7:35 a.m. on Sept. 1. WIBW
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Several Kansas Lottery players won prizes from a Powerball drawing where the jackpot had reached $1.8 billion on Sept. 5—tickets sold in northwest and northeast Kansas and via the Lottery app fetched prizes of $1 million, $2 million with a PowerPlay multiplier, and $50,000. WIBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shawnee County commissioners are considering a 1.9% spending increase for 2026 that will raise property taxes by about $62 on a $100,000 home—while the proposed $152.2 million budget adds $2.8 million for mental health services and wage increases at the sheriff’s and district attorney’s offices to balance local needs amid shrinking federal and state assistance. - ➤ Topeka drivers are advised that the U.S. 24/U.S. 75 eastbound exit ramp closed on Sept. 8 for repair work and traffic now follows a detour—using southbound U.S. 75, NW Lower Silver Lake Rd, and returning to northbound U.S. 75. KDOT said the repair work is needed for maintenance on U.S. 75—and will continue until late November, conditions permitting. KSNT
- ➤ Shawnee County Public Works said NW Topeka Boulevard near Rolyan Road will close from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 10-11 due to a waterline leak—detours are in place to keep traffic moving and property access open. WIBW

- ➤ Harlem Globetrotters will visit Topeka for their 100 Year Tour on Friday, March 20 at Stormont Vail Events Center — they will debut new 100 Year jerseys while competing against the Washington Generals.
