- ➤ Topeka police arrested Dalton W. Thompson after a Sept. 4 shooting on NE Poplar Street in Oakland that left Joseph Lee Kaberline dead and another injured—Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said Thompson was charged on Sept. 9 with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and aggravated battery while he is held on a $1 million bond. - ➤ Patrick Crim went missing after attending a Perry Lake motorcycle rally over Labor Day weekend but was found safe in Kay County, Oklahoma on Sept 8 as officials thanked volunteers and agencies for their help in the search. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ Officers responded around 8:00 p.m. Monday at Tinman Circle—located on the east side of Lake Shawnee—when they found a man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no foul play is suspected pending autopsy results. WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Voters in the Shawnee Heights School District will decide on a $65 million bond on November 4; the bond will raise property taxes by about $1.44 per month on a $100,000 home—funding high school expansions, classroom updates and new playground equipment. The Kansas State Board of Education approved this move on a USD 450 request to place the question on the 2025 General Election ballot. WIBW

- ➤ The City of Topeka announced Kimberly Quails as the new public information officer for the Police and Fire Departments. - ➤ Kansas health officials said that 12 WNV cases have been recorded by Sept. 5, with 11 severe cases and 1 death, and reported that north-central Kansas is at high risk—other areas remain moderate. KSNT
- ➤ The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka launched AI technology from Eon today to improve early lung cancer detection by reviewing reports with incidental lung nodules—ensuring prompt follow-up care.
