  • Washburn Professor Von Hansen performed 'Music is the Best' Sunday afternoon at the university's new Hurd Recital Hall where he played an arrangement of Frank Zappa songs to honor his father. He described the event as a show—one that lets music fill gaps when words fail—and said he will continue his tour in other states and return to Kansas in October.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Parts of Kansas Avenue in Topeka are closed this week for pavement repairs—closures include the northbound right lane between 25th and 27th, the same lane from 2310 to the southern entrance of 2132, and both inside lanes between Hillside and 2500. Driveways remain open during the first and third phases, and work is expected to finish Friday.  KSNT
