- ➤ Visit Topeka announced on Friday that hotels in the city are completely booked from Sept. 26–28 owing to major events such as NASCAR – events at Washburn University and Stormont Vail draw visitors. A local representative said the sell-out is a sign of growing optimism for future gatherings – including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and other large-scale events. KSNT

- ➤ Today at Aaron Douglas Art Park on SW 12th and Lane in Topeka, the 20th anniversary Aaron Douglas Art Fair features Ukrainian artist Zoriana Lylo-Otkovy whose work is inspired by Kansas sunrises and Ukrainian landscapes — the fair offers art, music and activities for all ages. WIBW

- ➤ Gas prices dropped in Topeka and across the nation on Friday morning as AAA reported the national unleaded price fell to $3.14 and Kansas averaged $2.85 per gallon. In Topeka, GasBuddy reported unleaded prices ranged from $2.59 to $2.99 while diesel averaged $3.43 in Kansas—followed by shifts from previous weeks. WIBW
- ➤ Kansas utility regulators approved Evergy’s request to increase rates by $128 million — raising average residential electric bills by about $8.47 per month — with new rates set to take effect Oct. 1, while Commissioner Dwight Keen partially dissented over the 9.7% return on equity for transmission delivery charges. - ➤ Two Kansas Highway Patrol helicopters were circling the Kansas Statehouse during the late morning of Sept. 26 in downtown Topeka on a photo flight to capture images of the skyline for publication + there was no emergency. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ Evergy, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and TerraPower signed a memorandum to study if a Natrium nuclear power plant can be built in Kansas that uses molten salt to store energy. The groups will examine potential sites and the reactor design—officials said. Kansas Reflector
- ➤ Branner Bridge in Oakland reopened on Sept. 26 after 110 days of road work—crews replaced pavement in an $825,000 project. City officials said traffic control will be removed by Sept. 30—ensuring the bridge is fully open. KSNT
- ➤ Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 30 the US-24 ramp at Topeka Boulevard’s exit to eastbound US-24 in North Topeka will close until late November for reconstruction (a detour along NW Lyman Road and Kansas Ave will direct traffic). WIBW
- ➤ On Friday, Sept. 26, 146 new attorneys passed the Kansas bar exam and took their state and federal oaths at the Topeka Performing Arts Center—making this the largest group sworn in from recent exams. Chief Justice Marla Luckert and other officials oversaw the ceremonies. WIBW

- ➤ Stormont Vail Health received national accreditation through the Practice Transition Accreditation Program on Friday—this accreditation confirms the hospital’s commitment to training nurses to provide safe, high-quality care. WIBW
- ➤ Kansas hospital leaders sent a letter to the state’s congressional delegation urging an extension of premium tax credits for those using the Affordable Care Act Marketplace. The leaders warned that losing the credits could raise premiums and lead to more uncompensated care—especially for rural hospitals—straining local health services. Kansas Reflector

- ➤ In August, the average home sale price in Topeka was about $244,318—nearing $250,000—as low inventory (roughly six weeks) kept the market in a seller’s favor.
