  • The zoo hosted its annual Boo event yesterday where children dressed as famous characters trick-or-treated at booths set up by local vendors—ensuring a safe and festive Halloween experience for families. The event will return on Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free entry.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Omni Circle held a free digital training session yesterday—200 residents, including 50 Spanish speakers, learned how to navigate laptops for tasks like resume building. Toucan Talent is partnering with Omni Circle on a session scheduled for Oct.22 at 6 p.m. at Omni Circle Group on S.W. Topeka Blvd.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Thousands of people gathered at the Kansas Statehouse in Topeka for the No Kings protest + they demonstrated against the federal administration as part of a national movement.  The Topeka Capital-Journal
  • Kansas Department of Labor said it did not release September’s monthly jobs report because the shutdown halted data collection on Oct. 1—official statistics remain only through August until funding resumes—causing a delay in new labor data.  Kansas Reflector
