- ➤ Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka is offering a $0 name-your-price adoption special for pets age 5 months and older—Stella, a four-year-old Corgi mix who warms quickly to new families and other pets is part of the program, and the shelter is also waiving fees to reclaim lost pets while accepting donations for its pet food pantry. - ➤ Evergy launched a tool that matches military job codes with available roles to help veterans align their military skills with company opportunities. The utility will host a Mission Transition event at 8:30 a.m. November 14 at Cedar Point Training Center — veterans and service members can explore additional career options then. WIBW
- ➤ Dillons grocery stores in Kansas will honor active and former military heroes on Veterans Day by offering a 10% discount to service members, veterans and their dependents on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Shoppers must present a valid military ID to receive the discount, which may combine with additional savings at some locations. WIBW

- ➤ Andy Valdivia finished his 26th mural for the Kansas State High School Activities Association after nearly 1,000 hours of work—he planned the design with photos, sketches and wall painting to show athletes by their sport—hoping the piece brings a fresh look to the Capital City. WIBW
- ➤ Author Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, a former Kansas Poet Laureate, will share her memoir about overcoming health challenges and saving her family farm—at the Topeka and Shawnee Co. Public Library on Nov. 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. WIBW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Flint Hills Technical College was named among 200 community colleges eligible for the $1 million Aspen Prize — it will compete through a 20-month review with the winner announced in Spring. WIBW
- ➤ Yesterday, the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center doubled its space from 15,000 to over 30,000 square feet by adding new interactive exhibits for kids to explore — including a family gallery and a two-story sunflower climbable installation — as record attendance necessitated more room.
