Extra aired Tuesday morning on WIBW.com and Roku — with hosts Jared Broyles and Reina Flores engaging viewers during the lively half-hour show — which featured local trivia and trending news. The program, noted for its interactive format, continues to draw local interest on weekday mornings.  WIBW
  • Yesterday, hundreds of residents lined up at Stormont Vail Events Center for Harvesters' monthly food distribution as volunteers handled about 400 cars and 47,000 pounds of food amid rising demand from SNAP benefits fallout. Harvesters—working with Topeka Turnaround and Topeka Bible Church—shifted the schedule from Nov 9 to the third Tuesday of each month to better meet local needs.  WIBW
  • The LULAC Senior Center in Topeka is offering a 65 Plus Food Pantry to help local seniors facing food insecurity after nearly 7 million seniors nationwide experienced hardship in 2022; organizers say many with limited incomes and transportation issues will benefit + they hope word spreads for more support.  WIBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Legislators and community leaders shadowed a principal at a Topeka Public Schools event on Tuesday—gaining an inside look at school leadership and how decisions impact curricula and programs—while a virtual luncheon provided further context.  WIBW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lake Shawnee will be closed to fishing from Nov.22 until 6 a.m. on Dec.1 for its annual fall trout stocking, which will release 7,000 pounds of rainbow trout to acclimate in the lake—residents are invited to watch the trout release at 1 p.m. on Nov.22 at the main boat ramp on Beach Drive.  WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kansas paid full SNAP benefits on Nov. 7 to 180,000 recipients after days of court orders and conflicting USDA guidance; Erin La Row said a recent memo stated that FNS will not impose penalties — supporting the state’s expectation of full federal funding.  Kansas Reflector

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Affordable homes are coming to North Topeka after the city council approved rezoning near NW Tyler Street and NW Lyman Road so Habitat for Humanity will build 23 detached single-family dwellings. Councilwomen Karen Hiller and Christina Valdivia-Alcala supported the plan — they believe the location will benefit nearby shopping and business areas.  KSNT
