- ➤ Local bikers from A.B.A.T.E. donated hundreds of toys at Westridge Mall on Friday to support the Toys for Tots mission for older children. Volunteers can drop off toys at the former Old Navy store on Monday (Dec. 8) and Tuesday (Dec. 9). WIBW
- ➤ Residents at Lexington Park Assisted Living celebrated Nedra Spingler’s birthday on Friday ahead of her turning 100 today. She credits healthy eating — exercising and staying active — for her enduring wellness. WIBW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, students from Washburn Tech and Topeka Public Schools led 500 volunteers in the 12th annual Toy Build. Their handmade toys will be delivered to children in 15 counties through Toys for Tots (the project has donated over 15,000 toys since its inception). WIBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Morton County Hospital has been receiving only half of its sales tax revenue since 2015 after an error directed nearly $2-million in funds to nearby cities. County officials are reviewing the oversight as monthly checks now total about $36,000 - lawmakers may address the issue in future sessions. Kansas Reflector
- ➤ NW 46th Street reopened Friday afternoon between 3:30 and 4 p.m. after Shawnee County Public Works finished work on the roadway; drivers were advised to use caution as normal traffic resumed. WIBW
- ➤ Federal law now excludes refugees and trafficking victims from SNAP support in Kansas under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, affecting 4,039 individuals pending review. Wichita-based IRC is reaching out to families to connect them with food and local resources. Kansas Reflector
