ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Strong winds and cold air moved through the region, causing power outages in pockets of northeast Kansas Sunday morning. Evergy reported about 200 customers lost power (areas include northwest Emporia, Vassar, southwest Topeka, west of Meriden, and Lawrence) while crews worked to restore service. WIBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A memorial service for former Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Dove Crematory and Funeral Home on SW 37th and Wanamaker Road, with a reception. He died on Aug. 21 in Topeka after a career spanning the 1960s to 2009. The Topeka Capital-Journal

- ➤ A power outage closed the Cotton O’Neil Express Care location on SW 29th St. in Topeka and Stormont Vail Health advises patients to visit other Express Care sites. Evergy works to restore power and the clinic will reopen today during regular hours. WIBW

- ➤ Dozens of local pinball players competed Sunday at The Pennant in a tournament for a $75 cash prize & gift card and a chance to qualify for state championships in January. Organizers plan another tournament in February to keep the community spirit alive. WIBW
