- ➤ Safe Kids Shawnee County offers free monthly car-seat checks to help families ensure child seats fit correctly. The next check is on Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at Cable Dahmer in Topeka, and appointments are available if needed. WIBW
- ➤ Capital Peace Project, a joint initiative by CIVIC + YWCA Kansas, launched today at Central Park Community Center with a $500,000 DOJ grant to support local youth and reduce violence. The program, built by Topekans for Topekans, will focus on early intervention and resource access. WIBW
- ➤ The Topeka Fire Dept. is hosting monthly open houses that show residents how a fire station really works. Station #4 held its event on Jan. 10 at 813 SW Clay, and the next will be at Station #5 on Feb. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. WIBW
- ➤ Volunteers joined a nationwide first lap on Jan. 10 that kicked off Relay For Life, honoring survivors and remembering loved ones. The county event will continue on May 15 at Hummer Sports Park with ceremonies and activities. WIBW
