- ➤ A fire broke out at 7 a.m. Friday at a two-story apartment building in the 700 block of S.W. 5th Street near downtown Topeka, where firefighters battled the blaze and police controlled traffic while power lines were arcing and no injuries were reported. WIBW
- ➤ A fire broke out Thursday evening at 6:50 p.m. at an apartment building at 837 S.W. Tyler St near downtown Topeka caused by discarded smoking materials—fire crews quickly contained the blaze to the balcony and residents escaped safely. WIBW

- ➤ On March 28, a local Satanic group planned a black mass at the Kansas Statehouse but encountered counter protest from Christian groups—one protester grabbed communion wafers and the group’s president punched him before being arrested as officers stepped in. The Topeka Capital-Journal
- ➤ On March 26, deputies checked on two people at a Dollar General in Mayetta and found fentanyl, THC, a stimulant, and drug paraphernalia—leading to the arrest of 31-year-old Cassidy Nicole Howland and 33-year-old Jonathan David King—and booked them into Jackson County Jail. WIBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ KDOT announced that crews will begin resurfacing an eight-mile section of I-70 (from K-30 in Wabaunsee to Valencia Road in Shawnee) on Tuesday, April 1. Workers will first resurface the eastbound lanes before moving to the westbound lanes, and drivers can expect one lane of traffic and intermittent ramp closures until the project is finished in July. - ➤ The City of Topeka’s Property Tax Rebate Program is now handled by the Community Resource Council—aimed at streamlining the process for senior homeowners who have owned and occupied their homes for at least five years with incomes under $37,750.
