The Daily Topeka team
If you walk around the Statehouse, you'll find eight new names. Gov. Laura Kelly added eight Kansans to the Kansas Walk of Honor at a ceremony Thu., Oct. 29, and women were the focus this year.
“Over the years as I've walked on these sidewalks, it's clear that women were not fairly represented, though they made incredibly significant contributions, and I just thought I would be remiss in not taking care of that oversight.”
Three of the eight new honorees range from a jurist to the inventor of basketball
| Honoree | What the reports say |
|---|---|
| Lucinda Todd | Civil rights activist, school desegregation |
| Kay McFarland | First woman appointed to Kansas Supreme Court |
| James Naismith | Kansas basketball coach, inventor of the game |
